My research in the past decade has focused on the emotions of guilt and shame. My colleagues and I have studied intrapersonal and interpersonal aspects of guilt and shame including the assessment of guilt- and shame-proneness as well as how the emotions are induced by others. We have also looked at gender differences in guilt- and shame-proneness and most recently, cross-cultural differences.
I recently have begun to study higher order thinking processes in college students. Specifically, my colleagues and I have begun to look at the effectiveness of using Keller's PSI system within a computer-adaptive framework (CAPSI) developed by Joseph Pear to increase student engagement and higher order thinking in undergraduate psychology courses. To see more about the research being done on CAPSI, see http://www.capsi.org or http://www.webcapsi.com.
Finally, my third area of research centers on judgment and decision-making, specifically behavioral economics. I am interested in why and how students engage in temporal discounting with regard to their schoolwork. I have collected data on these phenomena for the past five years and am looking forward to publishing my results in this area (see my presentations on this topic).
